(Taken from general discussion)

There's a new unwritten rule going around that if possible DO NOT use the stairs, but to find your way around them, or use them in an unorthodox manner...that includes the elevator and escalator

there are several ways in which one can get up or down without using the stairs...

the most obvious of course being jumping over the steps, but if there's too many to hop at one time, one can turn the stiars into a exercise appartus in itself in the form of...

*running leap onto the 3nd-4th-5th-etc step into roll
*cat walks/ hand stands each step,
*the use hand rails to traverse or slide down -link-
*one legged hoping or pistols down/up
*or just climb around it which is the case of most walls and ramps...

There are times we forget and catch ourselves or others breaking this rule, So it would be fun to implement a penalty in the from of exercise....

such exercises as push-ups, pull ups, muscles ups, running in place, planks, body props, etc. are good punishments and have conditioning benefits but don't really offer much in terms of helping the person find an alternate path.

If you choose to do a floor exercise, it must be done for at least 45 seconds, not very long but considering how many times you might accidentally use the stairs, it works.

depending on your location you can tweak or create a penalty exercise.

for example...(some i've come up with)

Walls- elevated walking push-ups -link- (can also be done over the steps with your feet and hands hooked on the rails,) or a horse stance -link-
playground- rail climbing -link- , -link- , -link- , -link-
Stair case with concrete siding - cat walk the the sides (post vid later)

the exercises you choose to do is completely limited to your imagination and whatever you have around you.

Finally, if you have failed to take the time to do conditioning, then taking the stairs just might make up for it ^_^

HAPPY TRACING, and please feel free to post your penalty ideas

I think this is a lot of fun.
People should post up some of the exercises they choose as "penalties."

I think a better alternative would be to skip steps walking up the stairs. Walking up stairs is still decent exercise, especially if youve got a backpack on or something.

Besides, walking up stairs is good for the legs :)

Or if you ever do take the stairs...you better step on EVERY SINGLE step...backwards...on your hands...with ankle weights.

That was actually most of the song that we came up with. We dont have the freerunning part, but its basically our version. Great minds think alike. We also need a line for soar and door

To get this thread back on track.....

I've done some simple variations on the stairs while going from floor to floor at work.
1 - walked the stairs backwards - I really try to focus on extending and pushing through the backs of my legs when I do this so I get the workout more on the posterior half
2 - used mostly arms to pull my body up on via the railings
